Today I had an amazing opportunity. I participated of a "panelaço" here in Buenos Aires. It is a kind of manifestation of those who were prejudicated by the curralito, some time ago. The name panelaço means the huge noise they make by hitting dishes with spoons. And curralito means that the government retained their money in the banks, it is impossible to get it back for a while.
I met a guy who has more than U$42,000.00 in Bank of Boston, but he can´t cash it and now he is unemployed. Crazy, right?
What was really interesting was observe that the people who were there was quite different of what I´m used to see in Brazilians manifestations. They were a little bit older, ladies and misters very well dressed - midle class, actually. "Conscious" people, that almost never have to do things like this.
Something like that happened in Brazil a few years ago, in 1991, with the Plano Collor. I was too young at that time to remember exactaly how it was, but I remember that my grandfather had some problems with his money also, he had just bought an appartment. It´s so sad to think that some lives can be radically changed because of bad finantial policies of our countries, right?
Like those people, they were so confident about their lives 4 years ago. They have saved their money for all their lives to have a safer future, and now they have 3 meetings a week in front of the government office to ask for their money, but this pression doesn't work, it is not really effective...
